Our Purpose Has Requirements

Or what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; just as God said, “I will dwell in them and walk among them ; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people . “Therefore, come out from their midst and be separate ,” says the Lord. ” and do not touch what is unclean ; And I will welcome you. “And I will be a father to you, And you shall be sons and daughters to Me,” Says the Lord Almighty.
2 Corinthians 6:16‭-‬18 NASB

It’s a beautiful sunny Saturday afternoon and the possibilities are endless. You have spent most of the morning playing at the park. You met some kids there and decided to play a few games of basketball. While still covered in sweat and out of breath; the new found friends hike down to the nearby lake. No plans, just guided by whims and whispers on what to do next. The untethered crew hops from one adventure to the next with nothing in the world that could possibly stop them. During your time out and about no thoughts of anyone else but yourself have danced across your mind.

You are enjoying your new friends company, the day zooming by and you have yet to noticed. Your speech patterns, your walk, how you carry yourself have started to imitate your surroundings. Your attitude towards things have shifted. Before, you wouldn’t have dreamed of breaking out the windows of abandoned buildings but now its fun. Before you wouldn’t have swam in the old creek over the hill because you use to think it was filthy. You are now using words that you never heard before today. You are speaking with disrespect to older people. Not only are these small changes are there but you have become physically unrecognizable.

By the end of the day, you are covered in dirt and mud. Your clothes are ruin and you smell like your been wrestling pigs all summer long. Now, its time for dinner and your parents are looking for you. But who they are looking for doesn’t resemble the way you look now. Everything about you right now act as a camouflage to them as they have passed by you several times as you yell and scream for their attention. Where they are going you can’t present yourself that way. They you may say to yourself, accept me as I am. Good point but when your parents have something for you that have certain requirements, are you really going to override them? It’s like your father giving you a spoon to eat with but you want to use a shovel and expect your father to go along with that. We are set aside for a purpose and are required to follow that purpose to the end. We can’t expect to have fellowship in our purpose with our creator when we have abused ourselves.
