Boasting

2 Corinthians 10:17-18 “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.” For it is not the one who commends himself who is approved, but the one whom the Lord commends.

What we boast in is actually what we are slaves to. Whatever it is that we boast in as our success, what we pride ourselves on, or what we see as our greatest gift; we ultimately become slaves to.  This is our true master regardless of what we may say who we “serve” or what your really worship.  It is the things we make the focal point of the beginning of our real lives.  Our boasting rests on those things we call turning points.  The things we do well or the things we feel that no one else can do but us.  Our boasting can also be things that we don’t think we could live without, they give our lives meaning.  Ironically, our point of boasting is also the center of our weakness.  It is the pressure point the enemy zeros in on.  We struggle to maintain our posture of boasting so we defend it when threaten.  Whenever this pressure point is revealed as weak, unworthy, wasteful, foolish,harmful, and sinful our defenses go up and war begins.  What kind of life are we living? It is one of hypocrisy and exhaustion; it is like a single actor playing every role in a movie.  It will take a toll on us and destroy us in the end.  Think about the thing you are always talking about.  The thing you light up about when you talk about.   Whether if its a bad or good thing isn’t the point at all.  The point is that it has taken you captive.  And you have done so willingly.  You have willingly and without second thought given your heart to another.

 But what if the center of our boasting was Jesus Christ?
