Where Are You

Then they said to him, “What must we do, to be doing the works of God?” Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.” So they said to him, “Then what sign do you do, that we may see and believe you? What work do you perform? But I said to you that you have seen me and yet do not believe. All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out. It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life. – John 6:28-30,36-37,63
The need to prove the existence of God or Jesus Christ to be correct, is not so that people may believe. Shocking? When a person wishes to believe in something they ask; “show me?” not “prove it!” If faced with something someone calls truth, in seeking an understanding of how they have come to that; you say show me. We look for what have changed your mind, what has happened to a person’s perspective to reshape their approach. A person looking for a reason to believe in what they didn’t must have a heart and mind that is open not defensive. “Show me” is almost like saying “teach me”, the burden is not on the teacher but the learner to understand. No matter how brilliant the teacher the lesson is nothing if not received. In the case of Christianity, we simply plant the seeds but those who look for proof is like sowing into bad ground. When someone is seeking proof, they only wish to maintain their current course and prove their rightness. Demanding proof is the call to be proven wrong, its like going to court. They use their “intelligence” as credential and collateral to bank their choices on. Commonly the personal faults of anyone with a remote association with Jesus is used to discredit the faith. It is like saying since a great inventor used drugs all his work is now questionable. Needing proof has never been about wanting to follow Christ, only to continue to follow ourselves. The defensive posture of “prove the existence of God” has no desire to accept God even if proven true. The answer is never really desired. If I want to know something, my intent is to actually use that knowledge. Since I intend to use it, I will seek out the absolute best source for the information not the worst or less knowledgeable. If I want to discuss, I don’t insult the person or make it completely personal by calling into question their intelligence. The quest to know will not be done in front of a crowd because its sincere and not looking for glory. In John 6, Jesus had just fed 5,000 people using only a few fish and loaves. After this Jesus left and traveled across the sea. The people followed him and He responded by saying that the reason they were seeking was not because they so the sign of the feeding but because they ate and were filled. Jesus had shown many signs already and yet they still didn’t believe. After they went on about what Moses did in feeding their forefathers manna, Jesus tells them that He is the bread of life and they rejected it. Of course they went personal as in verse 42 They said, “Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How does he now say, ‘I have come down from heaven’?” This is the same with those who demand that God defend himself against his own creations.
While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light.” The Unbelief of the People When Jesus had said these things, he departed and hid himself from them. Though he had done so many signs before them, they still did not believe in him, – John 12:36-37
Those looking for proof demand signs and wonders as if it would change their “minds”. Even during Jesus’ ministry here there were many who saw signs and still didn’t believe. But its not about facts but hearts. It’s about what a heart does with facts about it’s very own existence in relation to Jesus. We resist the idea of needing help, so we say who cares about heaven. But its not about heaven. We resist the idea about being flawed, so we say nobody is perfect. But its not about being perfect. We resist the idea of not being able to be good, but it’s not about moralism. We resist by pointing out bad Christians and there example. But it’s about them, it’s about you. We say how can you trust a book so old, but its not about age when God is infinite and so is his truth. Until we are honest about being honest, we can’t honestly seek after what we can’t put in our hearts. Everyday we slice ouf wrist in defiance, shouting at God, whom we don’t believe in that we can save our live. Our selfishness deceives us into believing in us. Sin is selfishness, that selfishness hates God and the two great commandments; love God and neighbors. Sin hates the command Jesus Christ gives to us individually, deny yourself take up your cross and follow me. Selfishness stands against this in our trying to save our life instead of losing ourselves from Christ’s sake in order to gain life. Our sin keeps us from seeking God and his righteousness first but it is our selfishness loves to worry about “me, myself, and I”. Selfishness says “its my life”, and sin says live like your consequences stay in a bubble. Sin thinks about self first always. Every thing we walk in the agenda of self, we live in sin and a friend of the world. The world is the warehouse store sin shops for self. All that we buy and sell if for the glory of self not God. All that we long for is for selfish pleasures of having a peace of mind that come from knowing that we still have control; sin. Don’t call ourselves sinners? How about selfish? No? Why not? Is it because we do to much already for selfish reasons which makes us hopeless sinners? But there is hope, the only way to deal with sin, the only way to remove the power of selfishness is to kill it and Christ killed it on the cross to make us new creatures.
You can’t cure what you don’t understand or refuse to see, so how can man save himself when he is always trying to find himself? Him can’t find himself because he’s lost. He waste time by not asking for directions, only by God’s grace does he run into markers. But he still ignores, a self made fool who will look back at the past and exaggerated the little good to mask all the pain his selfishness brought.
John 6 43 Jesus answered them, “Do not grumble among yourselves.44 No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day.45 It is written in the Prophets, ‘And they will all be taught by God.’ Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me—
Why would something that you don’t believe in make you so defensive? If it means nothing then why does it bother people so much? It bothered the Pharisees because it called into question their self made salvation or method of making themselves matter. On top of that to be told that no one comes to Christ unless the Father brings them in. The thought that we are not good enough after all the good deeds that we have done and all the charities we started, all the causes we walk, bike, jog, run, and march for. But they were all done for the wrong reason as we use the people we are “helping” to help ourselves to self worship by others. To believe in God means to step down from the throne no matter how much false humility we have, we are still to proud for the first commandment. Where is God? God is in the one place we purposely over look. Open your eyes, heart and mind, get out of yourself long enough to see your mess and when you remove the beam for you eye we will see actually where he is.
