Oblivious

Romans 1:28 And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, (AY)God gave them up to (AZ)a debased mind to do (BA)what ought not to be done. 29 They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips,30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents,31 foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. 32 Though they know (BB)God’s righteous decree that those who practice such things (BC)deserve to die, they not only do them but (BD)give approval to those who practice them.

We are born into the lap of sin being passed down like genes. We are all born into this world as sinners in love with our nature. We could try and say how unfair it is but we can’t continue to lie to ourselves; can we? Lying in the sense that we love every minute of living sinfully. Our culture seeks it and our world markets prey on it. The matrix was created on the shoulders of sin. Our system is predicated on the progression and maintaining of our status quo blindness to obvious sin. We have used God given talents to validate theories setup to hide truth. Literally the blind is leading the blind. God has essentially given us over to our stupidity for a time.

The blindness caused by sin is so gripping as it makes us oblivious to the obvious. We can also slip into an attitude of “righteousness” that is so thick that we become oblivious to an even greater sin of idolatry. Not only does sin separates us from God but it covers up all of our sins. It is like single cough that mask the symptoms of flu, ear infection, headaches, pneumonia, cancer and fever. With a single cough the will, mind and emotions reason together saying “I can stop this one thing at anytime”. The heart will dynamically adjust the frequency of sin to soften its blow. It will give the appearance of not having a hold on us to remove it for the prayer list. It out thinks us not because its smarter but because we don’t wish to let it go. We have assimilated back into the matrix and accepted the realm of ignorance. We secretly are betting that saying “we didn’t know” will keep hell’s gates closed to us. So it is easier for us to do penitence than to repent. It is easier for us to rededicate our lives than to repent. It is easier for us to do anything else but turn away and run from our sins.

Exodus 32

When the people saw that Moses (A)delayed to come down from the mountain, the people gathered themselves together to Aaron and said to him, (B)“Up, make us gods who shall (C)go before us. As for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.” 2 So Aaron said to them, “Take off the (D)rings of gold that are in the ears of your wives, your sons, and your daughters, and bring them to me.” 3 So all the people took off the rings of gold that were in their ears and brought them to Aaron. 4 (E)And he received the gold from their hand and fashioned it with a graving tool and made a golden[a] calf. And they said, (F)“These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt!”

Yes we are oblivious to the gravity and severity of what we are doing but also we are oblivious to how much we love it more than The Lord Jesus Christ. The system is very robust, meaning that it is fault tolerant and it throws error exceptions on the account of those who start to reject it. There are some whom God has predestined, these are the ones who God draws. He has touched their harden hearts so that they are no longer blind. Our need for God grows but the system wishes to not let go, so it helps us build false gods. We will take a dash of truth and shape the god after our own image. This god we control, this god will accept our short comings and put no requirements on us bearing fruit. We love the golden calf because its silent and the eyes can’t see. We can offer it everything but our hearts. All we give to it what can be replaced so we lose nothing. But this Jesus wants our lives! We would have to stop sinning! How dare he when the world says I can do whatever I want! This Jesus cuts the umbilical cord to mother sin giving us power to resist and repent. Jesus enables our hearts to feed from God’s love. Yet the system would have us to continue to sin saying God loves you and hates the sins we love more than him. By no means is it easy to go against our nature but God is stronger than any sin.

  1. […] our view and knowledge of what is a sin, is very shallow. God knows that our being sinners makes us oblivious to sin.  For this reason, the sermon on the mount is critical for us to understand.  The sermon […]
