Do we really have to be holy?

1 Peter 1:13-23
Be Holy

13Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed. 14As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. 15But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; 16for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”[a]

17Since you call on a Father who judges each man’s work impartially, live your lives as strangers here in reverent fear. 18For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, 19but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. 20He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake. 21Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God.

22Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart.[b] 23For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.

We should be holy because God is holy but what is it really be holy?  We put such an importance on what not to do in the church building or church grounds and even what not to say to the pastor or how to act around the pastor until we loss sight of how to be holy ourselves or that we too must be holy. 1 Corinthians3 16Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you? 17If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him; for God’s temple is sacred, and you are that temple.

All the things you do that you know GOD would not approve off are not holy things.  And when we claim to be christians, we  also claim to have God’s spirit and if you act contrary to the nature of the holy spirit you sin against God. We attempt to make God a lie; we are not being holy. This world and its master has us more concerned about what is fun and entertaining and less about what is pleasing to God. We think holiness is boring and stuffy. So we pursue 80 years of “having fun” living against the Lord God and on our death beds proclaim Christ to save our souls from an eternity of torture in hell. Sounds harsh but its true. We rather go with the crowd and give them all of us and give God the leftovers of our lives to do His will. If our parents raised us to be good parents and we walk contrary to their teaching we dishonor them, ourselves, our kids and anyone that comes in contact with us or our children. Wow, so God’s purposes and us being like Him is actually bigger than our wanting to “have fun” in this world. Do we not understand that God’s people will judge the world and the angels when Christ returns. So we are judged first and must be holy ourselves!
